Yvonne Prefontaine

OXFORD/ROCKLEDGE, FL – Yvonne D. (Gregoire) Prefontaine, 91, died Thursday, August 20, 2020, in Rockledge, FL.  She was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Kenneth J. Prefontaine Sr. who died in 2002; and four children, Kenneth J. Prefontaine Jr. who died in 2002, Diane M. Briggs who died in 2009, Robert E. Prefontaine who died in 2015, and Linda Cahill who died in 2018.  She is survived by two daughters, Emma L. McKinstry and her husband Kenneth of Charlton, and Cheryl A. Armstrong and her husband Peter of Rockledge, FL; her brother, James Eaton of Worcester; her sister, Annette Palczynski of Fort Lauderdale, FL; 16 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, 9 great-great grandchildren, and several nephews and nieces.  She was born in Worcester, daughter of the late Joseph L. and Louisia Gregoire, and lived in Oxford for many years before moving to Florida 35 years ago.  She graduated from Ocala High School in Ocala, FL, in 1987.

Mrs. Prefontaine was an EKG technician at Hubbard Hospital in Webster for many years, retiring in 1984.  Later, she was a school bus driver in Florida.  She was a member of St. Roch’s Church in Oxford and St. Mary’s Church in Rockledge, FL, for many years.  She volunteered for hospice in Florida and St. Mary’s Church Helping Hands.  She was a life member of the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary in Oxford, Ocala, and Rockledge.  She was a member of the Red Hat Society and enjoyed playing Bingo, knitting, crocheting, and swimming.

A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2020, at 10 a.m. at St. Roch’s Church, 332 Main St., Oxford.  Burial will follow at North Cemetery in Oxford.  A calling hour will be held on Saturday from 8:30 – 9:30 a.m. at Paradis-Givner Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oxford, prior to the Mass.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
