Winifred Rogers

OXFORD - Winifred R. (Collemer) Rogers, 95, of Old Webster Road, died Friday, June 15, 2012, in her home. She was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Arthur J. Rogers, Jr., who died in 2006; and her first husband, Leslie Elvin Anderson, who died in 1940. She is survived by four daughters, Leslie E. Bejune of South Carolina, Marilyn J. Beardsley and her husband Al Beardsley Jr. of Oxford, Susan E. Rogers of Arizona, and Dawne M. Reigle and her husband Robert of New Jersey; her brother-in-law, Earl Robert Rogers of California; two sisters-in-law, Patricia Slamin of North Carolina and Ruth Rogers of Auburn; five grandchildren, Brenda, Brian, Leslie Ann, Michael, and Elizabeth; five great-grandchildren, Brianna, Madison, Alexis, Briana, and Jocelynn; her caregivers, Leigh Ann, Ania, Francis, Misty, and Amy; her nurse, Nancy; and many nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by two brothers, Lee Collemer and Howard Collemer; and a grandson, Jonathan. She was born in Worcester, the daughter of the late Elmer S. and Grace M. (Brown) Collemer, and lived most of her life in Oxford. She graduated from Oxford High School in 1934, and attended hairdressing school in Worcester. Mrs. Rogers was a social worker and police officer in Oxford in the 1940's. She was an active member of the First Congregational Church in Oxford and cared for foster children many years ago. She was one of the first Girl Scout leaders in Oxford and an original member of the Oxford Woman's Club. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 21, 2012, at Paradis Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oxford. Burial will follow at North Cemetery in Oxford. Calling hours are Wednesday, June 20, 2012, from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
