NORTH OXFORD - Walter "Tootie" P. McCarthy, 81, formerly of Oxbow Road, died Wednesday, July 1, 2015, at UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Erleen C. (Normandin) McCarthy; two daughters, Lori Haas and her husband Robert of Hampton, NH, and Lynn Lyons and her husband Lawrence of Oxford; three sons, Scott McCarthy and his wife Leda, Steven McCarthy and his wife Yvette, and Stuart McCarthy and his wife Karin, all of Oxford; two brothers, Armand McCarthy and Albert McCarthy; four sisters, Claire Ugalde, Claudia Seale, Frances Normandin, and Gail Sivret; 11 grandchildren, Lawrence, Jeremiah, Donald, Joseph, Keshia, Kadye, Meghan, Michael, Dylin, Maranda, and Daltin; and 6 great-grandchildren, Amber, Lucas, Elijah, Mariah, Cheyanne, and Madison; and many nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by two brothers, Kenneth McCarthy and Roger McCarthy; and a sister, Janet Williams. He was born in Southbridge, the son of the late Walter E. and Irene G. (Strack) McCarthy, and lived most of his life in North Oxford. He served in the Massachusetts Air National Guard for 22 years. Mr. McCarthy was an automotive technician at Max's Motor Sales in Oxford for many years, retiring in 1997. He was a longtime member of St. Ann's Church in North Oxford. He enjoyed building and racing cars, and watching NASCAR. He liked puzzles and reading, and most of all loved to spend time with his grandchildren. The family would like to thank Dr. Neil Kluger for everything he has done, and the staff at UMass for their exceptional care during his illness. A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 6, 2015, at St. Ann's Church, 652 Main St., North Oxford. Those attending are respectfully requested to meet directly at the church. Burial will follow at St. Roch's Cemetery in Oxford. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Ann's Church, P.O. Box 488, North Oxford, MA 01537. Paradis-Givner Funeral Home in Oxford is directing the arrangements.
