Virginia Alden

OXFORD - Virginia (Boarn) Alden, 87, formerly of Oxford, died Friday, December 18, 2009, at Overlook Masonic Health Center in Charlton. She was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Arthur B. Alden of Oxford, who died in 2005; and her son, Richard A. Alden of Dudley, who died in 2007. She is survived by a daughter, Jane E. Robinson and her husband Michael of Putnam Valley, NY; a daughter-in-law, Sharon Alden of Dudley; and five granddaughters, Julie and Jessica Alden, and Jennifer, Lindsay, and Chelsea Robinson. She was born in Wareham, the daughter of the late Edward G. and Julia M. (Savary) Boarn, and lived most of her life in Oxford. She graduated from Wareham High School and Bridgewater State College. Mrs. Alden was an elementary school teacher at the Chaffee School in Oxford for 29 years, retiring in 1986. Previously, she was a teacher in Grafton and Wareham. In retirement, she worked at Merry Morning Preschool in Oxford. Mrs. Alden was a dedicated member of the First Congregational Church in Oxford. In addition to being a member of the church, she was a member of the Board of Trustees, a Sunday school teacher, and a member of the Woman's Fellowship. She enjoyed spending time with her family, and her granddaughters were the joy of her life. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, December 23, 2009, at the First Congregational Church, 355 Main St., Oxford. Burial will be at a later date at Nemasket Hill Cemetery in Middleboro. Calling hours are Tuesday, December 22, 2009, from 5-7 p.m. at Paradis Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oxford. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Congregational Church, 355 Main St., Oxford, MA 01540, or to the Alzheimer's Association, Massachusetts Chapter, 311 Arsenal St., Watertown, MA 02472.
