DUDLEY - Theodore A. Gulkin, M.D., 78, of Dresser Hill Road, died Wednesday, January 7, 2015, at UMass Memorial Medical Center - University Campus, after a period of declining health. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Susan L. (Vitkus) Gulkin of Dudley; his son, Eric T. Gulkin and his wife Pattie of Dudley; two sisters, Sylvia Phillips of Braintree and Marian Mason of Delray Beach, FL; three grandchildren, Emma Gulkin, Nathan Gulkin, and Owen West; and many nephews, nieces, and cousins. He was predeceased by his sister, Eleanor. He was born in Boston, the son of the late David and Rose (Futransky) Gulkin, and lived in Charlton and Jacksonville, Florida, before moving to Dudley 5 years ago. He graduated from Boston Latin School in 1954, received his bachelor's degree from Boston College, and received his M.D. from the University of Basel in Switzerland. Dr. Gulkin worked at Westborough State Hospital for several years before retirement. Previously, he worked at several other local hospitals. He found the most enjoyment teaching pathology lab students at the University of Massachusetts Medical School in his retirement. The Gulkin family would like to extend their sincere appreciation for the exceptional care that Dr. Gulkin received from the Intensive Care Team at UMass Medical Center. Calling hours are Sunday, January 11, 2015, from 2-4 p.m. at Paradis-Givner Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oxford. A prayer service will be held on Sunday at 4:00 p.m. at the conclusion of the calling hours. Burial will be private at a later date at Westridge Cemetery in Charlton. Flowers may be sent or memorial contributions may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Massachusetts Chapter, 101 A First Ave., Waltham, MA 02451.
