OXFORD – Stanley R. Johnson, 88, of Harwood Street, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 10, 2022, at UMass Memorial Medical Center – University Campus in Worcester, with his family by his side. He leaves his wife of 65 years, Priscilla A. Johnson of Oxford; two children, Alan Johnson and his wife Lynn of Newport, NC, and Deborah Gordon and her husband John of Brookfield; two sisters, Ethel Glidden of Auburn, and Barbara Smith of Boylston; five grandchildren, Erin Vanasse, Jennifer Tory, Nathan Johnson, Holly Breton, and Kevin Gordon; and five great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by five brothers and two sisters.
Stanley was born in Worcester, the son of the late Lawrence and Mary Etta (Parmenter) Johnson; and lived in Worcester before moving to Oxford in 1957. Stanley graduated from Commerce High School in Worcester, where he was voted Class Vocalist of the Year.
Stanley worked for the Madison Wire and Cable in Lancaster for 15 years. He also worked as a custodian for the Oxford Public Schools for 10 years. Stanley enjoyed singing, playing his harmonica, and was in plays with the Worcester County Light Opera. He was a member of the First Congregational Church in Oxford and sang in the church choir for many years. He enjoyed listening to his favorite tenors, Andrea Bocelli and Luciano Pavarotti.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 18, 2022, at the First Congregational Church, 355 Main Street, Oxford. Burial will be private at a later date at North Cemetery in Oxford. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Congregational Church, P.O. Box 585, Oxford, MA 01540.
