MARLBOROUGH/NEW HARTFORD, CT – Siegfried J. Cronauer, 88, most recently a resident of the Branches in Marlborough, died peacefully on Thursday, September 28, 2023, at High Pointe House in Haverhill. He was predeceased by his wife of 49 years, Jean (Higgins) Cronauer who died in 2021. He is survived by two children, Andrew J. Cronauer and his wife Amanda of Dudley, and Emily J. Cronauer of Torrington, CT; three grandchildren, Olivia K. Cronauer, Jeremy J. Cronauer, and Matilda M. Cronauer, all of Dudley; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 12 brothers and sisters. He was born in Leimen-Pfalz, Germany, son of the late Stefan and Emilie (Heim) Cronauer, was raised in Germany and spent most of his life in Connecticut. He attended Northeastern University and received his bachelor's degree and M.B.A. from the University of Washington. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War.
Mr. Cronauer worked for Stanley Works in New Britian, CT, for 17 years, retiring as Director of International Finance in 1995. He loved singing, playing the trumpet, playing the piano, classical music, and sang with the Connecticut Yankee Chorale in Torrington, CT. He had a passion for nature and enjoyed spending time outdoors hiking, climbing, gardening, planting, and walks in the woods conversing about ideas. He was a well-spoken man who loved philosophy and good conversation. Mr. Cronauer enjoyed swimming and loved good food. He will be remembered as the rock of his family, who loved spending time with his grandchildren and teaching them German.
A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 22 Dudley Hill Road, Dudley. Burial with military honors will follow at West Ridge Cemetery in Charlton. A calling hour will be held on Tuesday morning from 9-10 a.m., at Paradis-Givner Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oxford, prior to the Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 309 Waverly Oaks Rd., Waltham, MA 02452, or to Veteran's Inc., 69 Grove St., Worcester, MA 01605.
