OXFORD - Shirley B. Sherman, 81, of Walcott St., died Friday, Feb. 25, 2011, at Millbury Healthcare Center in Millbury, after a short illness. She was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Milton R. Sherman who died in 2010; and her son, David P. Sherman of Norwich, NY, who died in 1996. She is survived by a son, Peter R. Sherman and his wife Joan of Millbury; his daughter-in-law, Leona Chaney of Louisiana; seven grandchildren, Kristen, Jessica, Betsy, Tyler, Jonathan, Elizabeth, and Colleen; and nine great grandchildren. She was born in Spencer, the daughter of the late Henry Blomquist and Laura Kermack, and was a lifelong resident of Oxford. She graduated from Oxford High School and later received her bachelor's degree from the Sargent School (currently part of Boston University). Mrs. Sherman was a school teacher at the Allen L. Joslin School in Oxford for 30 years, retiring many years ago. Knitting was her passion, and she especially loved making scarves. Mrs. Sherman and her husband enjoyed spending winters at the Hypoluxo Harbor Club in Florida and summers at their camp on Lake Manchaug. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 1, 2011, at the First Congregational Church, 355 Main St., Oxford. Burial will be at a later date at Pine Grove Cemetery in Spencer. Calling hours are Monday, February 28, 2011, from 5-8 p.m. at Paradis Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oxford. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Boston Higashi School, 800 North Main St., Randolph, MA 02368, ATTN: Development Office.
