OXFORD - Robert R. Knox, Sr., 78, died Wednesday, August 13, 2014, at St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Marilyn G. (Mack) Knox of Oxford; two children, Cynthia L. Bradstreet and her husband Chris of Middleboro, MA, and Robert R. Knox, Jr. and his wife Tambre of Hudson, MA; four grandsons, Gregory, Nathaniel, and Kyle Bradstreet, and Kelson Knox, four sisters, Alma Morrow of Oxford, Helena Blake of Rochdale, Lois Richardson of Worcester, and Judith Mikat of Leicester; a brother, Herbert Knox of Worcester; and several nieces and nephews. Pre-deceased by his brothers Walter & Charles Knox and a sister Norma Pong of Worcester, MA. Mr. Knox was born in Worcester, the son of the late Horace F. and Anna B. (Starbard) Knox, and lived in Oxford since 1985. He graduated from South High School in Worcester and attended Worcester Junior College. He was a member of the U.S. Army reserve. Mr. Knox spent 22 years with the Friendly Ice Cream Corp. opening the first store in the state of NY, retiring as a District Manager. Later, following his passion for food and service, he owned and operated the Medical Center Coffee Shop in Southbridge. Also, following his passion for driving, he operated his own airport limo service for friends and neighbors. As an active member of the Oxford United Methodist Church, he continued his service to the community - often organizing post-funeral receptions, men's breakfasts at the church or preparing lunches for the Worcester Fellowship street community. In addition to serving on committees or preparing meals, Mr. Knox loved to prepare and deliver the Sunday message. Following his passionate faith, Mr. Knox started "Nuggets of The Good News", creating greeting cards and publishing his book entitled "Choose to Believe - Your Choice for a Lifetime." - a book of Christian poetry. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family and playing cribbage. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, August 18, 2014, at the Oxford United Methodist Church, 465 Main St., Oxford. Burial will be private at a later date. Calling hours are Sunday, August 17, 2014, from 2-6 p.m.at Paradis-Givner Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oxford. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Worcester Fellowship, c/o Oxford United Methodist Church, 465 Main St., Oxford, MA 01540.
