Robert Chaffee

OXFORD - Robert F. Chaffee, 88, of Main Street, died Friday, January 28, 2011, in Ft. Myers, Florida. He was predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Edythe E. (Momeyer) Chaffee who died in 2009. He is survived by three daughters, Elizabeth J. Chaffee of Yarmouthport, Mary C. Baskin of Little Rock, AR, and Susan R. Chaffee of Oxford; three brothers, David M. Chaffee of Webster, Alfred L. Chaffee of Seattle, WA, and Donald L. Chaffee of Florida; six grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and many nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by a brother, Gordon J. Chaffee of Chehalis, WA. He was born in Worcester, the son of the late Leslie J. and Hazel G. (Foster) Chaffee, and was a lifelong resident of Oxford. He also enjoyed spending winters in Cape Coral, FL, since 1986. He graduated from Oxford High School in 1941 and from Wentworth Institute in Boston in 1943. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. Mr. Chaffee was the former owner of Chaffee's Appliance Store and Chaffee's Department Store in Oxford, and had worked at Chaffee Bros. Company. He was a member of the Oxford United Methodist Church, a member and past commander of the American Legion Post 58, and a member of the Webster/Dudley/Oxford Chamber of Commerce. The family gratefully acknowledges Bob and Marilyn Knox of Oxford, who took great care of him for the past year. Calling hours are Monday, February 7, 2011, from 10 a.m. - 12 noon, at the Oxford United Methodist Church, 465 Main St. Oxford, followed by a funeral service at 12 noon at the church. Military burial will follow at North Cemetery, Oxford, with the Oxford Memorial Honor Guard participating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Oxford United Methodist Church, 465 Main St., Oxford, MA 01540. Paradis Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oxford, is directing the arrangements.
