Richard Beane, Sr.

OXFORD - Richard M. Beane, Sr., 87, passed away Sunday, May 1, 2011, at Radius Healthcare in Worcester. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 55 years, Rita E. (Malloy) Beane in 2001 and a son Vincent in 1964. He is survived by three sons, Richard M. Beane Jr. of Hingham, Kenneth D. Beane of Oxford, and Gordon L. Beane and his wife Mary of Worcester; two daughters, Katherine T. Larini and her husband Paul of Hardwick, and Lorraine M. Devault and her husband David of Westerly, RI; a sister, Phyllis Anderson of Oxford; fourteen grandchildren, six great grandchildren, nephews and nieces. He was born in Worcester, and was the son of the late Leon J. and K. Helen (Murray) Bean. He attended Worcester schools and graduated from South High, Class of 42. He lived in Worcester and Northboro before moving to Oxford in 1950. Mr. Beane was deeply loved and admired by his family. A U.S. Army Air Corp World War II veteran, he earned the rank of First Lieutenant and served as a B-17 pilot and mission squadron leader. Richard was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medal. He was a Senior Research Technician at Wyman-Gordon Corp. in North Grafton for 32 years, retiring in 1986, and was a member of St. Roch Parish in Oxford. A talented craftsman, he enjoyed woodworking and other pursuits. A memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 9, 2011, at St. Roch Church, 332 Main St., Oxford. There are no calling hours. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Massachusetts Chapter, 311 Arsenal St., Watertown, MA 02472. Paradis Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oxford, is directing the arrangements.
