DUDLEY – Priscilla A. (Kennedy) McVeigh, 81, of Hayden Pond Road, died Tuesday, October 3, 2023, at the Overlook Masonic Health Center in Charlton, surrounded by her family. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Douglas J. McVeigh of Dudley; three children, Dianne L. Norton and her husband Jamie of Vineyard Haven, Karen L. Lafayette and her husband Marc of Ludlow, and Douglas A. McVeigh and his wife Nancy of Ludlow; her brother, Philip A. Kennedy and his wife Diana of Michigan; six grandchildren, Jessica Gray and her husband Martin, Stephanie Simon and her husband Matthew, Marcus Lafayette and his wife Rebecca, Alexander Lafayette, James “Doug” Norton, and Jonathan Norton; three great-grandchildren, Julian Gray, Tristan Gray, and Lilya Simon; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Linda Kampe who died in 1992. She was born in Worcester, daughter of the late Andrew L. and F. Pansy (Harrington) Kennedy, and lived in Oxford and Ludlow before moving to Dudley in 2003. She graduated from Oxford High School in 1960 and received a bachelor’s degree from Framingham State University in 1965.
Mrs. McVeigh was a home economics and science teacher at Granby Junior Senior High School in Granby for 22 years, retiring in 1991. Previously, she was a teacher at Oxford Middle School for 3 years. She was a member of the Oxford United Methodist Church in Oxford, and a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star – James W. Hannam Chapter in Ludlow. Mrs. McVeigh was a founding member of the Oxford Assembly of the International Order of Rainbow Girls. She enjoyed sewing, crafts, baking, traveling, and painting later in life.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at the Oxford United Methodist Church, 465 Main St., Oxford. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 9:00-10:30 a.m. at the Oxford United Methodist Church prior to the service. Burial will follow at North Cemetery in Oxford. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Oxford United Methodist Church, 465 Main St., Oxford, MA 01540, or to the Oxford Ecumenical Food Shelf, 4 Maple Rd., Oxford, MA 01540.
