Philomond Gagne, Iii

OXFORD - Philomond "Phil" Gagne III, 77, died Tuesday, February 10, 2015, at UMass Memorial Medical Center - University Campus, in Worcester. He was predeceased by his wife of 49 years, Joan A. (Gallant) Gagne who died in 2009. He is survived by three children, Curt J. Gagne and his wife Theresa of Oxford, Brenda A. Gagne of Holland, and James J. Gagne and his wife Rebecca of Brimfield; his mother whom he was devoted to and visited daily, Doris (LaMountain) Gagne of Oxford; his grandson, Andrew G. Gagne of Oxford; his longtime friend, Paul Boutillette of Oxford; and many nephews, nieces, brothers-in law, and sisters-in-law. He was born in Oxford, the son of the late Philomond Gagne Jr., and lived most of his life in Oxford before moving to his daughter's home in Holland 5 years ago. He graduated from St. Charles High School in Woonsocket, RI, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Mr. Gagne worked at Norton Company in Worcester for 33 years, retiring in 1999. In addition, he worked for his family's business, Gagne's Market on Leicester Street in North Oxford until the early 1980's. He was a member of the Oxford Fire Department for 20 years and was a deputy sheriff for many years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 4241 in Oxford. Mr. Gagne was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, and boating. He loved going to the casino, playing cribbage, and driving his 3-wheeler. Most of all, he enjoyed going to the beach and taking vacations with his family. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, February 16, 2015, at Paradis-Givner Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oxford. Burial will follow at St. Roch's Cemetery in Oxford. Calling hours are Sunday, February 15, 2015, from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
