OXFORD - Philip P. "Phil" Donovan, 76, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 25, 2012, after a brief illness. Phil was born on January 9, 1936, the son of the late Joseph and Irene (Jacques) Donovan, and lived most of his life in Oxford. He was predeceased by four brothers, E. Daniel, Joseph, James, and Lawrence Donovan; a sister, Jane Zidelis; an infant daughter, Theresa Donovan; and his son-in-law, Mark Turgeon. Phil is survived by six children, Daniel M. Donovan and his wife Debra of Paxton, Debora M. Cain and her husband Walter of Webster, Maureen A. Bombard and her husband Richard of Marlborough, Timothy F. Donovan and his wife Michelle of Webster, Kathleen B. Turgeon and her fiancé Gareth Edwards of Webster, and Tracey D. Navaroli and her husband Scott of Southborough; ten grandchildren, Steven, Ryan, John, Brian, Shannon, Spencer, Morgan, Bryan, Jennifer, and Erin; his former wife, Elizabeth A. (Dargie) Donovan; and many nephews and nieces. Phil graduated from Mount St. Charles Academy in Woonsocket, RI, and later from New England School of Accounting. He proudly served his country in the Korean War as a member of the U.S. Army, and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5663 and the American Legion Post 58, both in Oxford. Phil enjoyed many years of retirement, having retired from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as a Tax Auditor. He also worked for many years at Heritage Country Club and previously worked at the former P.S. Dubrey Company. Phil was a man of great humility. His greatest joy was his family and he was proud of all of their accomplishments. Phil was a sports fan and enjoyed the Yankees and New York Giants. He enjoyed horse races, crosswords, and playing cards with family and friends. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, December 1, 2012, at St. Roch's Church, 332 Main St., Oxford. Please meet directly at the church. Burial will follow at St. Roch's Cemetery in Oxford. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to Mount St. Charles Academy, 800 Logee St., Woonsocket, RI 02895. Paradis Funeral Home in Oxford is directing the arrangements.
