OXFORDPaul J. Monahan, 65, of Oxford, MA died on February 22, 2013, in his home, following a courageous eight-year battle with kidney cancer. He was born to the late Paul and Bernadette Monahan in Waltham, MA. Paul graduated from Waltham High School and later attended Bentley College, where he earned a degree in accounting. After working for more than a decade at a Boston accounting firm, he established Central Mass. Property Management (formerly Monahan Property Management) in Shrewsbury, MA, which he owned and operated for more than twenty years. Those who knew Paul will no doubt recall his affinity for fine men's clothing, an extensive vegetable garden, woodworking, participating in community theatre, vacationing with Kathy at their cottage in Boutouche, New Brunswick, Canada, and spending summer days in his hammock and summer nights on the porch reading and listening to the Red Sox. Paul's loved ones have been continually inspired by the way he lived his life to the fullest following the cancer diagnosis. In those eight years he vowed to embrace each day and new opportunity with renewed vigor, resulting in, among other things, traveling with Kathy to Alaska, Ireland, London, Hawaii, the Mediterranean, Australia, and the Canadian Maritimes, visiting more than a dozen baseball stadiums with his son, Brian, and even fulfilling his dream of piloting a World War II-era open cockpit plane! Paul is survived by his best friend and soulmate, Kathy; three children: Brian and wife Lauren (and their children Ashlyn, Colin, Jason, Keaton), Michael, and Laurie; a brother, Kevin and his wife Lori; three sisters: Susan and her husband Dan, Donna and husband John, Sheila and husband Harry; a stepson, Robert Harris and wife Annette (and their children Angelina, Joseph, Timothy, Aundria, Alliyanna, and Robert Jr.); and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Paul battled bravely and could not have done so without the many fine doctors, nurses, and other medical personnel that they encountered. The family is particularly grateful for the compassionate care and expertise shown by Dr. Nandana Kansra of Shrewsbury Internal Medicine and Dr. Mary Ellen Taplin of Dana Farber Cancer Institute. Paul's funeral will be held on Wednesday, February 27 from Paradis Funeral Home, 357 Main Street, Oxford, followed by a Mass at 10:00 a.m. at St. Ann's Church, 652 Main St., North Oxford. Burial will follow at St. John's Cemetery in Worcester. Calling hours are Tuesday, February 26 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions in Paul's honor may be made to Wounded Warrior Project (woundedwarriorproject.org) or Christmas in the City (christmasinthecity.org).
