Paul Masterson

August 2, 1925 — March 20, 2012

OXFORD - Captain Paul F. Masterson, USNR (retired), died on March 20, 2012. Born in Worcester on August 2, 1925, he was the son of William R. and Mary A. (Fitzpatrick) Masterson. He graduated from Classical High School, Bentley College, and Pennsylvania State University. Paul was a captain in the U.S. Naval Reserves and served on active duty during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He retired after 30 years of dedicated service. He held four commands during his time of service. He owned and operated an accounting practice that included educational seminars, called The Institute, with offices in Worcester and Oxford until he retired in 1990. Paul was a former president of the Oxford Rotary Club, Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the Oxford Public Library, member of the Board of Trustees for the Massachusetts Association of the Blind, and president of the Webster Square Business Association. He was active in the St. Vincent de Paul Society at St. Ann's Church in Oxford and the Immaculate Conception Church in Westerly, RI. He was a life member of the V.F.W. and American Legion in Oxford and Westerly. He leaves his wife, Dorothy M. (O'Malley) Masterson; two sons, P. Michael Masterson and his wife Suzanne of Newton, and Kevin F. Masterson and his wife Karen of Sherborn; two daughters, Patricia M. Masterson of Easton and Karen A. Bazemore and her husband Mark of Wayland; seven grandchildren, Joshua, Faith, Josie, Kate, Conor, Adelaide, and Claire; along with several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, William K. Masterson and the Reverend John J. Masterson. A funeral will be held on Saturday, March 24, 2012, from Paradis Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oxford, followed by a Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Ann's Church, 652 Main St., North Oxford. Military burial will follow at North Cemetery in Oxford. Calling hours are Friday, March 23, 2012, from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home, with the Oxford Memorial Honor Guard participating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Massachusetts Association for the Blind, 200 Ivy St., Brookline, MA 02446, or to the St. Vincent de Paul Society, c/o St. Ann's Church, P.O. Box 488, North Oxford, MA 01537.
