GRAFTON / LEICESTER - Paul E. Anderson, 73, of Edward Street in Leicester and formerly of Grafton, died Monday, September 22, 2014, at the Rose Monahan Hospice Residence in Worcester. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Sandra (MacKenzie) Anderson of Leicester; two children, Gretchen Slevin and her husband Mike of Worcester, and Glenn Anderson of Auburn; two sisters, Joan Garner of East Falmouth and Betty Joinville; and his wonderful grandson, Liam. He was born in Worcester, the son of the late Edwin and Andrea (LaRoche) Anderson, and lived in Worcester for several years and Grafton for 38 years, before moving to Leicester in 2009. He graduated from South High School in Worcester, attended Worcester Junior College, received his bachelor's degree from Fitchburg State College, and received his master's degree from Worcester State College. He was a member of the U.S. Army Reserves. To quote him, "I greatly loved my family and adored spending time with my grandson, Liam. My favorite things to do were spending time with my family, boating, being on Cape Cod, taking long walks with Josie, York Beach, fishing, swimming, biking, and woodworking." Paul loved his 35 years teaching and was awarded the "Teacher of the Year" award. He coached girls' basketball and softball, and boys' varsity tackle football. He was a skilled carpenter and built 2 houses during his career. Paul was an avid runner, was part of the Runner's Club, and ran in the Boston Marathon. He enjoyed cross-country skiing and enjoyed photography and teaching graphic arts. Paul was president of the St. Vincent de Paul Society at St. James Parish for many years. He always believed in doing good for others through community service and outreach work. He loved going on trips during April school vacations. He was also called the "social director" by our friends and family. He will be greatly missed. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, October 1, 2014, at St. Ann's Church, 652 Main St., North Oxford. Please meet directly at the church. Burial will follow at St. Philip's Cemetery in Grafton. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society, c/o St. Ann's Church, P.O. Box 488, North Oxford, MA 01537. Paradis-Givner Funeral Home in Oxford is directing the arrangements.
