STERLING – Patricia A. (Day) Bracewell Raymond, 81, of Chace Hill Road, beloved mother to six children, was called home Tuesday, July 2, 2024, after a long illness, leaving a void her family cannot fill.
She is survived by her husband of 5 years, Ronald R. Raymond of Sterling; six children, Debra Starr and her husband Robert of Webster, Brian Bracewell Sr. and his wife Tammy of Oxford, Steven Bracewell of Dudley, Herbert Bracewell III of Worcester, Yvonne “Nicki” Davis and her husband Gerald of Thompson and Lynda Winslett of Worcester; 15 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; 4 stepchildren; 9 step grandchildren; 7 step great-grandchildren, along with her beloved dog companion Scottie. She was predeceased by her first husband, Herbert M. Bracewell Jr. who died in 2015; a brother Arthur E. Day Jr.; and a sister Ruth Ernst.
She was born in Northampton, daughter of the late Arthur E. and Ella M. (Lavallee) Day, and lived in Worcester for over 30 years and Oxford for 44 years, before moving to Sterling in 2019. She graduated from Northampton High School in 1960, and attended Worcester City Hospital School of Nursing.
Mrs. Raymond was a registered nurse at UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester for 38 years, retiring in 2008. Previously she worked at Worcester City Hospital and Catholic Charities, both in Worcester. She specialized in IV Therapy, taking special care to provide comfort and care to all. She was ahead of her time, having taken the lead in PICC Lines. She was known for being able to access the most elusive of veins. She was a member of Life Church in Webster and the UMass Retiree Group.
Mrs. Raymond was beloved, cherished, esteemed and highly favored! She was a devoted mother to six children, her pride and joy. She always said their birth changed her life for the better, and they felt that in the love and support she provided. Pat loved everyone she came into contact with and leaves a legacy unmatched by most. She loved dancing, playing cards, making jewelry, crafting, attending live shows and any time she could spend with others. She was known for her incredible gift of generosity.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at Paradis-Givner Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oxford. Burial will follow at Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton. Calling hours are Monday, July 8, 2024, from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
