Nancy Ph.D.

OXFORD - Nancy M. (Laflamme) King, 59, died Saturday, July 5, 2014, at St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester. She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Michael W. King of Oxford; two daughters, Nicole King and her partner Christopher Shrum of Millbury; and Nancy Yacino (and grandson S.J.) of Florida; her mother, Jessie M. Laflamme of Worcester; her sister, Carol Denham and her husband Don of Webster; her mother-in-law, Marion King of Millbury; two sisters-in-law, Diane Watkins of Hubbardston and Cheryl Keller and her husband Scott of Millbury; a brother-in-law, Kevin King of Millbury; nephews, nieces, grandnephews, grandnieces, and her cat, Pewter. She was predeceased by her father, Wilfred Henry Laflamme; her father-in-law, Virgil King; and her brother-in-law, Jon Watkins. She was born in Worcester and was a lifelong resident of Oxford. She graduated from Oxford High School in 1973, received her B.S. from the University of Massachusetts - Amherst in 1978, and received her Ph.D. from Clark University in Worcester in 1999. Mrs. King worked at UMass Medical School conducting research on H.I.V. for 8 years, retiring in 2007. She played clarinet in the high school band and was a member of the school choir. In her younger years, she enjoyed playing the piano and playing softball. She was active in the Girl Scouts and Oxford Youth Soccer, loved cross-country skiing and the beaches on Cape Cod. She enjoyed gardening, animals, and was an avid Red Sox fan. Calling hours are Thursday, July 10, 2014, from 4-6 p.m. at Paradis-Givner Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oxford. A memorial service will be held on Thursday at 6:00 p.m. at the conclusion of calling hours. Burial will be private at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 480 Pleasant St., Watertown, MA 02472.
