OXFORD - Mildred L. (Pickett) Deschenes, 82, of Carron Lane, died Tuesday, October 21, 2008, in her home after a short battle with cancer. She was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Leo R. Deschenes Sr., who died in 2006. She is survived by two sons, Leo R. Deschenes Jr. and his wife Valerie of Webster, and Michael A. Deschenes and his wife Debra of Webster; a daughter, Pamela L. Devin and her husband Gregory of Holden; a sister, Gertrude Wolfe of El Centro, CA; seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She was predeceased by two brothers, Edward Pickett and Daniel Pickett; and a sister, Evelyn Pickett. She was born in Worcester, the daughter of the late Daniel F. and Inez E. (Parsons) Pickett, and lived in Worcester before moving to Oxford 55 years ago. Mrs. Deschenes was an assistant secretary at the Clara Barton School in Oxford for 8 years. She volunteered for the Oxford Senior Center for many years and was a member and treasurer of the R.A.F.A. Auxiliary. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. A funeral will be held on Friday, October 24, 2008, from Paradis Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oxford, followed by a Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Roch's Church, 332 Main St., Oxford. Burial will follow at North Cemetery, Oxford. Calling hours are Thursday, October 23, 2008, from 6-9 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Oxford Memorial Honor Guard, c/o Al Vigeant, 33 Chestnut Hill Rd., North Oxford, MA 01537.
