OXFORD – May B. (Olney) White, 108, of Main Street, died Monday, July 18, 2016, in her home. She was predeceased by her husband of 67 years, Raymond E. White of Oxford who died in 2004. She is survived by two sons, R. Olney White of Rochdale and Stephen B. White and his wife Marcia of Wyman, ME; four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and several nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by her sister, Helen G. Olney. She was born in Oxford on July 8, 1908, daughter of the late Guy W. and Gertrude (Stafford) Olney, and was a lifelong resident of Oxford. She graduated from Oxford High School in 1926 and the Salter School in Worcester.
In her early years, she worked for the State Mutual Insurance Company in Worcester. Later, she worked for Clark Insurance Agency in Webster, the Journal of Endocrinology, Oxford Public Schools as a secretary and substitute teacher. Mrs. White was lifelong member of the First Congregational Church in Oxford. She was a member of the D.A.R.–General Ebenezer Larned Chapter, the Order of the Eastern Star-Clara Barton Chapter, and the Mayflower Society in Boston. She was a member of the Oxford Historical Society and the Huguenot Society.
Mrs. White was the great-great-niece of Clara Barton.
The family would like to thank the V.N.A. Care Hospice for their kind and compassionate service, and Carol Fitzpatrick for the exceptional care given for many years that allowed her to remain in her home.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 25, 2016, at the First Congregational Church, 355 Main St., Oxford. Burial will follow at North Cemetery in Oxford. Calling hours are Sunday, July 24, 2016, from 5-8 p.m. at Paradis-Givner Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oxford. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Congregational Church, 355 Main St., Oxford, MA 01540, or to the Clara Barton Birthplace Museum, P.O. Box 356, North Oxford, MA 01537-0356.
