Matthew Twomey

OXFORD / LARGO, FL - Matthew D. Twomey, 76, of Largo, Florida, passed away unexpectedly on October 14th at his home. He was predeceased by his wife of 45 years, Roberta Twomey who passed away in 2009. He leaves a daughter, Maura Twomey of Clearwater, FL; two sons, Christopher Twomey and his wife Lisa of North Grosvenordale, CT; and Scott Dearent and his wife Debra of Dudley, MA; six grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Kelcee Twomey, both of Millbury, "Little" Matty of N. Grosvenordale, and Nathan, Nicholas, and Nolan Dearent, all of Dudley; a brother, Timothy Twomey; and many nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by a sister, Elizabeth Breen; and three brothers, John Twomey, Jeremiah Twomey, and Hugh Twomey. Matthew was born in Boston on April 9, 1936, the son of the late Jeremiah and Mary Ellen (Murphy) Twomey, attended Charlestown High School, and graduated from St. Anselm's College in Manchester, NH. He lived close to family and friends in Oxford for over 25 years before moving to Florida in 1997. Mr. Twomey's career spanned some 40 years in the insurance, investment, and financial service industry, and he was Regional Vice President with Evergreen Investments before retiring. He was a member of the Seminole Elks and a member of St. Patrick Catholic Parish in Largo. While living in Oxford, he was a member of St. Roch's Church. Matt will forever be remembered as a loving father to his children and a selfless caregiver to his wife in her time of need. Matt would light up the room with his outgoing personality and would leave a loving and lasting impression with all those he met, we will miss him dearly. A funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am on Friday October 26, 2012, at St. Roch's Church, 332 Main St., Oxford. Burial to follow at St Roch's Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Roch's Church, 334 Main St., Oxford, MA 01540. Paradis Funeral Home, Oxford, is assisting the family with arrangements.
