OXFORD – Marguerite A. (Fries) Gaddis, 88, of Water Street, died on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, in her home. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert W. Gaddis who died in 2021, and her daughter-in-law, Elizabeth A. Gaddis who died in 2020. She is survived by three sons, Mark C. Gaddis of Oxford, Peter W. Gaddis and his wife Lori of Arlington, VA, and Kevin P. Gaddis of Oxford; a sister, Dorothy Proctor of Millbury; six grandchildren, Rocco Merolli and his wife Asia, Rebecca Ide and her husband Mark, Amy Gaddis, Margeret Gaddis, Leiston Gaddis, and Sutton Gaddis and his wife Laura; two great-grandsons, Carter Gaddis and Francis Merolli; and many nieces and nephews.
She was born in Santa Cruz, CA, daughter of the late Augustus and Marguerite (Howes) Fries, and lived in Fresno, CA, Medway, and Dudley, before moving to Oxford in 2021. She was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War.
Mrs. Gaddis owned and operated “The Little Store” in Medway from 1978-1990. She enjoyed oil and watercolor painting, gardening, cooking, baking and decorating cakes, swimming, and taught ceramics in Medway for many years. She was a former member of the Catholic Daughters of Medway and a den mother for Cub Scouts when her sons were young. She was a jack-of-all-trades and was never afraid to try something new.
A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 20, 2024, at St. Roch's Church, 332 Main St., Oxford. Those attending are respectfully requested to meet directly at the church. Burial with military honors will follow at North Cemetery in Oxford.
