LEICESTER – Leon J. Bigelow, 92, of Pleasant Street, died Thursday, August 31, 2023, in his home. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Marilyn M. (McCarthy) Bigelow of Leicester; three children, Richard L. Bigelow and his wife Sherrill of Groveland, James B. Bigelow and his wife Rose of Utah, and Carol Ann Bigelow and her significant other David Sala of North Oxford; four grandchildren, Racheal Bigelow, Michael Bigelow, Brianna Bigalow, and Ashlyn Bigalow; and several nieces and nephews. He was born in East Douglas, son of the late Milford and Lillian (Rogers) Bigelow, and lived in Upton and Oxford before moving to Leicester in 1992. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War.
Mr. Bigelow was carpenter and owned Key Developers Inc. for many years, retiring in 1992. He built many homes in Oxford throughout his life. Previously, he owned and operated Mr. B’s T.V. in Oxford. After retirement, he was very active in his workshop and built furniture for friends and family until 2 months ago. He was a Scoutmaster in Oxford for 13 years, and was a member of the Good Sam Camping Group. He was a member of the First Congregational Church in Oxford.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 6, 2023, at North Cemetery, Main St., Oxford. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Congregational Church, P.O. Box 585, Oxford, MA 01540. Paradis-Givner Funeral Home in Oxford is directing the arrangements.
