CHARLTON - June Waldron died Saturday, July 20th at her home in Charlton, MA. June was born in Oxford on June 20th, 1925, and lived most of her life in Oxford before moving to Chatham, MA and then to Charlton. She was predeceased by her parents, Arthur I. and Jessie A. (Mulvey) Gardner, her first husband, James R. Officer, who died in 1954, and her second husband, James F. Waldron, who died in 2012.
She is survived by her four children, Kathleen (David) Casavant of Oxford, Susan Donovan of Webster, Peggy (John) Prouty of Charlton, and Timothy (Nancy) Waldron of Orleans. She leaves 8 grandchildren, Katharine Casavant, James Casavant, Nathan Prouty, Martha Prouty, Seth Prouty, Shannon (Waldron) Hubbard, Michael Waldron, and Kali Waldron. In addition, she leaves 11 great grandchildren, all of whom she adored. As an only child, June took great pleasure in watching her family grow.
June was a graduate of Oxford High School and Boston University. She began her long teaching career at North Brookfield High School and then spent over 30 years as a teacher at her alma mater, Oxford High, beginning as an English teacher, then moving over to the business department, of which she later became the head. She was loved and respected by her students, and she loved and respected them in return. She maintained contact with many of them over the years and was always so proud of their accomplishments. Soon after retiring in 1985, she and Jim fulfilled a life-long dream, moving to West Chatham, MA, where she lived until 2014.
June’s greatest love besides her family was Howgate Cottage in Wells Beach, Maine, where she spent many happy years walking the beach, watching the waves, and basking in the sun followed by cocktails on the back porch and watching the sunset. She loved the off seasons, noting the changes in the landscape and weather. She loved to travel and had special memories of her trip to Ireland, as she was fiercely proud of her Irish heritage. She enjoyed playing cards, especially around the dining room table at Howgate with the Waldron clan. An avid reader, she always had a book (or in recent years her Kindle) close by, passing on this love of books to her children.
June made a lasting impression on all who knew her for her kindness and concern for others, often putting their needs before her own. Throughout her long life, she touched many people, leaving a lasting impression on so many. She will be missed not only by her family but also all who knew her.
