OXFORD – June Eileen (Hoye) Lewis, 83, of Main Street, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 9, 2017, at UMass Memorial Medical Center – University Campus. She was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, John R. Lewis of Oxford who died in 2016. She is survived by two daughters, Cheryl A. Lewis-Darling of Charlton, and Dr. Pamela L. Lewis of Glastonbury, CT; two grandsons, John Lewis Darling of Oxford and Zachary Mendelovici of Glastonbury, CT; a brother, Richard S. Hoye of Oxford; a sister, Beverly Jane Dery of Webster; and many nephews and nieces. She was born in Oxford, daughter of the late Walter and Evelyn M. (Whaley) Hoye, and was a lifelong resident of Oxford. She graduated from Oxford High School in 1951.
Mrs. Lewis was a bookkeeper since she was 15 years old, working at Chaffee Brothers and for her husband, before retiring from Webster Co-Operative Bank in Webster in 1996. She was a very active member of the Oxford United Methodist Church, where she was a member since age 9. She assisted with bookkeeping and accounting at the church and served on various committees throughout the years. She enjoyed selling real estate for many years. Mrs. Lewis was a sports fan who especially enjoyed watching the Patriots and Red Sox, loved her community of Oxford, and especially enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, January 17, 2017, at the Oxford United Methodist Church, 465 Main St., Oxford. Burial will follow at North Cemetery in Oxford. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Oxford United Methodist Church, 465 Main St., Oxford, MA 01540. Paradis-Givner Funeral Home in Oxford is directing the arrangements.
