WORCESTER – Joseph S. Pio, 86, died peacefully on Saturday, January 9, 2016, at the Blaire House of Worcester after a long illness. He is survived by five children, David J. Pio and his wife Linda of Thompson, CT, Joseph S. Pio and his wife Gloria of Randolph, Donna M. Barbale and her husband David of Charlton, Debra A. Friend and her husband Joseph of Worcester, and Angelina F. Pio; his former wife, Geraldine L. (Darragh) Pio of Worcester; and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his sister Theresa Clouthier. He was born in Fitchburg, son of the late Anthony and Angelina (Frankavilla) Pio, and lived most of his life in Worcester. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War.

Mr. Pio worked at the Rob Roy Beauty Science Academy in Worcester for 10 years, retiring as director in 1990. Previously, he was the director of the cosmetology departments at Bay Path Regional Vocation Technical High School in Charlton and Cape Cod Technical High School in Harwich. Mr. Pio participated in the Senior Olympics in Worcester and enjoyed coaching sports in high school.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, January 13, 2016, at St. Ann’s Church, 652 Main St., North Oxford. Please meet directly at the church. Burial with military honors will be held later on Wednesday at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Blaire House, 116 Houghton St., Worcester, MA 01604. Paradis-Givner Funeral Home in Oxford is directing the arrangements.
