NORTH OXFORD - Joseph L. Laramee, Jr., 88, died peacefully at home on Wednesday, August 5, 2015, surrounded by his family after a period of declining health. He was born in Abercorn, P.Q., Canada, on April 3, 1927, son of the late Joseph L. and MaryAnne (Roy) Laramee Sr. He came to the United States at age 18 where he met and married Theresa M. LaPlante. They were married for 69 years and lived most of their lives in North Oxford. After attending Barber School in Boston, Joe opened "Joe's Barber Shop" in North Oxford, which he operated for 45 years before retiring in 1989. He was a volunteer firefighter in North Oxford for many years. Often in the middle of a haircut, the fire alarm would sound and he would leave his shop. Joe would finish the haircut later that evening. Joe was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 4241 in Oxford, and was a member of St. Ann's Church in North Oxford. He loved waterskiing and boating at their summer camp on Manchaug pond. He also loved snowmobiling, gardening, fishing, cutting and splitting his own wood, keeping his lawn immaculate, and many other outdoor projects. The legacy he left his children was his relentless work ethic and his commitment to family. He is survived by his wife, Theresa M. Laramee; seven children, Joseph Laramee III and his wife Susan of Oxford, Paul Laramee and his wife Mary of Auburn, Ann Laramee of Oxford, Arthur Laramee and his wife Eloise of Oxford, Theresa LeBlanc and her husband Gary of Hubbardston, David Laramee and his wife Rebecca of North Oxford, and Michael Laramee and his wife Michelle of North Oxford. He was predeceased by two brothers, Paul Laramee of Florida, and Arthur Laramee who died during the Korean War. The family would like to thank the Visiting Angels for their care and friendship, especially Heather, Laurie, Sherrie, and Angela.
