CHARLTON – John J. Seguin Sr., 78, of Southbridge Road, died on Saturday, April 16, 2016, in his home. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Geraldine R. (Budgick) Seguin of Charlton; three children, John J. Seguin Jr. and his wife Linda of Sturbridge, Sandra M. Courtemanche of Charlton, and Timothy P. Seguin and his wife Mary Kay of Dudley; three brothers, Wilfrid Seguin, Mark Seguin, and Frank Seguin; three sisters, Louis Seguin, Michelle Chase, and Marie Grinstead; 19 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and many extended family members and friends. He was predeceased by a brother, Peter Seguin; and a sister, Jacqueline Dumas. He was born in Taunton, son of the late Dr. Wilfrid and Antoinette (Cormier) Seguin, and lived most of his life in Charlton.
John attended St. Anselm College and graduated from the University of Massachusetts, then followed his dreams of becoming a landscaper. Following graduation, he worked for Atwater Nurseries in Agawam and Glen Echo Gardens in Charlton before starting his own business in 1970 under the name of Laurel Hill Nursery. John loved nature, reading, and painting. He especially loved his grandchildren and received the greatest joy in seeing them.
Family and friends are invited to gather from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, April 25, 2016 at St. Joseph Church, 10 H. Putnam Rd. Ext., Charlton, for a calling hour. A funeral Mass will be held on Monday at 7:00 p.m. at St. Joseph Church immediately following the calling hour. Burial will be private at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph’s Church, P.O. Box 338, Charlton City, MA 01508. Paradis-Givner Funeral Home in Oxford is directing the arrangements.
