OXFORD - John L. Lapomardo, 83, of Wheelock St., died Saturday, April 3, 2010, at St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester. He was predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Angelina D. "Julie" Lapomardo of Oxford who died in 2004. He is survived by four children, John Lapomardo and his wife Karen of Dudley, Sandra Grandone and her husband Michael of Worcester, Stephen Lapomardo of Worcester, and Paul Lapomardo and his wife Nicole of Shrewsbury; a close friend, Betty-Ann Gadoury of Dudley; nine grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and many nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by a brother, Michael Lapomardo; and a sister, Mary Russell. He was born in Worcester, the son of the late Dominic and Lena (Falcone) Lapomardo, and lived in Worcester before moving to Oxford 54 years ago. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Mr. Lapomardo retired in 1993 after 13 years of service with Oxford Public Schools. Previously he worked for 20 years in the trucking industry and was a construction worker for Antonelli Construction in Worcester. In his retirement, he was a courier for Aggregate Concrete in Grafton. Mr. Lapomardo was a member of St. Roch's Church and the American Legion Post 58, both in Oxford. He organized youth football for teenagers in the community many years ago. He was an early organizer and very active with the Oxford Little League and Babe Ruth Baseball in Oxford, and enjoyed coaching for many years. He will be missed by family and friends, and was well-liked by all who knew him. A funeral will be held on Wednesday, April 7, 2010, from Paradis Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oxford, followed by a Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Roch's Church, 332 Main St., Oxford. Military burial will follow at St. Roch's Cemetery, Oxford, with the Oxford Memorial Honor Guard participating. Calling hours are Tuesday, April 6, 2010, from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Webster Food Share, c/o United Church of Christ, 4 Church St., Webster, MA 01570, or to the Worcester Food Share.
