WEBSTER – Joan F. Snay, 74, died Sunday, May 1, 2016, at Worcester Health Center in Worcester. She is survived by her life partner, Arlene J. Dorischild of Cherry Valley; eight grandchildren, Ryan Milgate, Lauren Milgate, and Derek Milgate, all of Centerville, Alison Milgate, Matthew Milgate, Jason Milgate, Benjamin Milgate, and Samuel Milgate, all of Cherry Valley; a brother, Richard Snay; a nephew, David Snay of Port Orchard, WA, a niece, Jennifer Snay of Oxford; a great nephew, Jacob Snay and Gabriel Snay, both of Port Orchard, WA; and a great niece, Sophia Snay of Port Orchard, WA. She was born in Worcester, daughter of the late Edmond L. and Margaret L. (LaBay) Snay, and lived in Oxford and Webster throughout her life. She graduated from Oxford High School and was a 2nd degree Reiki practitioner.
Ms. Snay worked at Amethyst Point in Worcester for 15 years, retiring in 2004. Previously, she was a weaver, worked at Deary Brothers, and was a bus driver for Kunkel Bus Company. She was a member of the Unity Church of Central Massachusetts in Worcester.
Ms. Snay was of Abenaki and Mi’kmaq heritage and was connected to the Native American community. She gave Indian Lore presentations at area schools and was active in Indian Powwows. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and those she worked with at Amethyst Point.
A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, May 6, 2016, at Paradis-Givner Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oxford. Burial will follow at St. Roch’s Cemetery in Oxford. Calling hours are Thursday, May 5, 2016, from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
