Joan Gagne

OXFORD - Joan A. (Gallant) Gagne, 69, of Little John Circle, died Thursday, February 12, 2009, in her home after a 2-year battle with cancer. She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Philomond Gagne III of Oxford; three children, Curt J. Gagne and his wife Theresa of Oxford, Brenda A. Gagne of Holland, and James J. Gagne and his wife Rebecca of Brimfield; her mother-in-law, Doris Gagne of Oxford; two brothers, Paul Gallant and his wife Margaret of East Hartland, CT, and David Gallant of Putnam, CT; a sister, Marie Duhamel of Auburn; a grandson, Andrew G. Gagne of Oxford; two sisters-in-law, Kathy Gallant of Charlton and Jean Gallant of North Carolina; and many nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by a brother, Pete Gallant of Brimfield who died in 1973; and a nephew, Kevin Gallant of Charlton who died in 2006. She was born in Oxford, the daughter of the late Emil J. and Esther M. (Burke) Gallant, and was a lifelong resident of Oxford. Mrs. Gagne worked at SCRRI in Sturbridge for 24 years, retiring in 2007 due to her illness. Previously, she worked at Gagne's Market in North Oxford for 15 years. She enjoyed playing games and cards, and played pitch with a group for 30 years. She was an avid Red Sox fan and enjoyed traveling and going to the beach. Mrs. Gagne enjoyed playing bingo and going to Foxwoods, and especially loved spending time with her grandson, nephews, and nieces. A funeral will be held on Monday, February 16, 2009, from Paradis Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oxford, followed by a Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Ann's Church, 652 Main St., North Oxford. Burial will follow at St. Roch's Cemetery, Oxford. Calling hours are Sunday, February 15, 2009, from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
