OXFORD – Jeanne T. Coomey, 84, formerly of Spruce Street, died Thursday, November 26, 2015, at the Overlook Masonic Health Center in Charlton. She was predeceased by her husband of 48 years, Francis X. Coomey of Oxford, who died in 2000. She is survived by three children, Denise C. Schwed and her husband Robert of Brooklyn, NY, Stephen J. Coomey and his wife Kim of Monroe, NY, and Michael W. Coomey and his wife Susan of Paxton; her sister, Barbara McDonald of Windsor, VT; seven grandchildren, Alexander, Katherine, and Ellen Schwed, Christopher, Kari, Joshua, and Sarah Coomey; a great grandson, Henry Schwed; and many nephews and nieces. She was born in Worcester, daughter of the late William F. and Katherine (O’Reilly) Kelley, and lived most of her life in Oxford. She graduated from South High School in Worcester in 1949 and later received a certificate in bookkeeping.
Mrs. Coomey was a bookkeeper at Charlton Woolen Company for many years. She was a lifelong parishioner at St. Roch’s Church in Oxford and served as a Eucharistic minister. Mrs. Coomey was a member of the Oxford Garden Club, the Oxford Woman’s Club, and a volunteer for the Friends of the Oxford Public Library. She enjoyed playing cards and bridge, traveling, entertaining with her husband, and most of all enjoyed spending time with her family.
A memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, January 16, 2016, at St. Roch’s Church, 332 Main St., Oxford. Burial will be private at St. Roch’s Cemetery in Oxford. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice. Paradis-Givner Funeral Home in Oxford is directing the arrangements.
