STERLING, NY – James V. Whalen, 62, of Richmond Avenue, died suddenly on Thursday, December 8, 2016. He is survived by his sister, Judy A. Rourke of North Oxford; his brother, John Whalen of Florida; and two nieces. He was born in Waltham, son of the late John and Doris (Deveaux) Whalen, and lived in Uxbridge before moving to New York many years ago. He graduated from Waltham High School in 1972, and was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War.
Mr. Whalen worked for Sunoco Corporation in New York for over 10 years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed tending to his large vegetable garden and sharing his vegetables with friends and neighbors.
A private graveside service will be held at Mount Feake Cemetery in Waltham at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 417005, Boston, MA 02241-7005. Paradis-Givner Funeral Home in Oxford is directing the arrangements.
