WEBSTER - James "Jim" A. Ushinski, 94, died October 27, 2013, in his home, surrounded by his loving family with his devoted wife by his side. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Marion E. (Kokernak) Ushinski of Webster; five daughters, Donna R. Bohon and her late husband John of Rutledge, TN, Joan M. Eident and her companion Leo Forcier of North Chelmsford, Laurie M. Widmark and her husband Peter of Dover, NH, Gail A. Towne and her husband Robert of Sutton, and Cheryl L. D'Cruz and her husband A. Alex of Merritt Island, FL; a sister, Lucy Cote and her late husband Edward of Worcester; 19 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, and countless loving nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by a granddaughter, An'gela J. Dufour who died in 1998, five brothers, Stanley, John, William, Raymond, and Joseph Ushinski; and a sister, Helen Calcagni. He was born in Chicopee, the son of the late John and Rose (Janawich) Ushinski, and lived in Worcester before moving to Webster 45 years ago. He was a proud U.S. Army veteran of World War II of the 234th Engineer Combat Battalion which included eleven months of continual battle in four countries. He also served in the Civilian Conservation Corps in Vermont. Jim was a machinist at Rex Chain Belt in Worcester for 40 years, retiring in 1981. He also worked at Carlson's Marina in Shrewsbury, where he enjoyed fixing boats. He enjoyed hunting, gardening, dancing the polka, and especially loved deep-sea fishing, as well as canning his own food, picking wild mushrooms, and making Swedish Glug during the holidays. He and his wife spent winters in Fort Myers, FL, for many years. He was a social person who loved to be around people. The family would like to thank the staff at Central Mass. Hospice for their wonderful care and compassion during his illness. A funeral will be held on Thursday, October 31, 2013, from Paradis Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oxford, followed by a Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Roch's Church, 332 Main St., Oxford. Burial will follow at West Sutton Cemetery in Sutton. Calling hours are Wednesday, October 30, 2013, from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Central Mass. Hospice, 191 Pakachoag Road, Auburn, MA 01501 or charity of choice.
