WORCESTER – James “Jimmy” L. Courtney, 69, died peacefully on Tuesday, March 28, 2023, with family by his side. He is survived by two daughters, Amanda R. Bourbeau and her husband Emile of Oxford, and Shannon V. Courtney of Oxford; two grandsons, E.J. and Rene Bourbeau; his former wife, Michelle (Hamel) Courtney; a brother, Ernest Young of Maine; three sisters, Mildred Leveillee of Oxford, Colleen Watkins of Auburn, and Jessie Shays of Arizona; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers, Robert Courtney, Daniel Courtney and Frederick Courtney; and two sisters, Linda Oberg and Catherine Korio. He was born in Fitchburg, son of the late Robert and Jessie (Sweeney) Courtney, and lived most of his life in Worcester.
Jimmy worked as a hardwood floor installer for many years. He enjoyed playing pool, bowling, gardening, sudoku puzzles, and playing with his beloved dog, Zeus. He especially loved hunting and fishing. He was a member of the Main South American Legion Post 341 in Worcester. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends, and will be remembered for his contagious smile.
Memorial calling hours are Tuesday, April 11, 2023, from 5-7 p.m. at Paradis-Givner Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oxford. Calling hours will conclude with family remembrances at 7:00 p.m.
