CHARLTON – James D. Coleman Sr., 69, of #6 Schoolhouse Road, died Wednesday, March 12, 2025, in his home. He is survived by two children, James D. Coleman Jr. of Little Rock, AR; and DeEtte R. Ackart and her husband Chris of East Lyme, CT; three brothers, Benjamin J. Coleman Jr. and his wife Yvonne of Charlton, George Coleman of Stonington, CT, and Edwin Coleman and his wife Cheryl of Groton, CT; three sisters, Nancy Arrell and her fiancé Norman Lee of Westerly, RI, Dorothy Paille and her husband Joseph of South Paris, ME, and Lori Ryder of South Paris, ME; his former wife, Susan M. (Mace) Pick of Connecticut; three grandsons, Blake, Emmitt, and Harrison; and many nieces and nephews.

He was born in Norwich, CT, son of the late Benjamin J. and Rose M. (Newton) Coleman Sr., and lived most of his life in Pawcatuck, CT, before moving to Charlton in 2021. He was a U.S. Army veteran, spending three years with the Army before serving 10 years in the Army National Guard.

Mr. Coleman worked in the maintenance department at Foxwoods Casino prior to retirement. Previously, he worked for Bill’s Tractor in Pawcatuck, CT. He enjoyed reading, especially Harry Potter, throwing darts, and fishing. He built Legos throughout his life and created many Lego castles.

A graveside service will be held at a later date at West Ridge Cemetery in Charlton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 7023, Merrifield, VA 22116.

Paradis-Givner Funeral Home in Oxford is directing the arrangements.
