James Chinigo

NORTH OXFORD – James V. Chinigo, 78, of Pleasant Street, died Saturday, September 17, 2016, at UMass Memorial Medical Center – Memorial Campus in Worcester. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Lois A. (Rasku) Chinigo; two children, Peter J. Chinigo and his wife Tracy of Lexington, KY, and Lynne M. Chaney and her husband Christopher of Berlin; two grandchildren, Alexander “Alex” T. Chinigo and Gabriella “Gabbie” N. Chinigo, both of Lexington, KY; and several nephews, nieces, and cousins. He was born in Worcester, son of the late James V. and Aune S. (Niemi) Chinigo, and lived in Worcester before moving to North Oxford in 2001. He attended Worcester Junior College and served in the Air National Guard of Massachusetts and the Air Force Reserve.

Mr. Chinigo owned and operated Chinigo Enterprises for 10 years. He also worked for various businesses in the area. He was a member of Christ the King Church in Worcester and the Knights of Columbus Council 12691 at the church. He was a referee for youth hockey for several years and was an umpire for the Amateur Softball Association for 40 years. He loved sports, especially football, enjoyed cooking, and will be remembered as someone who had many friends and loved to be around people.

A funeral will be held on Wednesday, September 21, 2016, from Paradis-Givner Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oxford, followed by a Mass at 11 a.m. at St. Aloysius-St. Jude Parish, 489 Pleasant Street, Leicester. Burial will be private at a later date at St. John’s Cemetery in Worcester. Calling hours are Tuesday, September 20, 2016, from 4-7 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Knights of Columbus, c/o Joseph Baniukiewicz, 51 Tarrytown Ln., Worcester, MA 01602, or to St. John’s Food for the Poor, 44 Temple St., Worcester, MA 01604.
