OXFORD – James F. Butler, Jr., 59, of Sutton Ave., died peacefully on Friday, December 16, 2016 at home with his wife at his side. He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Kathleen (Brewster) Butler of Oxford, three sons, Matthew Butler and his wife Jennifer of Webster, Michael Butler and his wife Christina of Worcester, and Daniel Butler and his wife Kasey of North Attleboro; three sisters, Donna Buono and her husband Ken LaJoie of Oxford, Mary Hodgerney and her husband Norman of Worcester, and Dianne Larrea and her husband Mario of Tampa, FL; Stepmother Carol Pytko and her husband Russell of Oxford; stepbrothers Peter Berthiaume and his wife Karin of Sunapee, NH, and Jon Berthiaume of Oxford. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren: Greyson, Hudson, John, Riley, and Reagan, and many beloved nieces and nephews. Jim is preceded in death by his parents, James F. Butler, Sr. and Adrienne (White) Butler. He grew up in Boston and was a graduate of Boston Latin School.
Jim was well known in the Oxford Community as an owner of Butler Fuel Corporation, and was recently retired from ckSmithSuperior. He was a respected professional who was also considered a friend by many of his customers. Jim was a stand-up guy who loved vacationing in Maine with family, playing basketball, and watching all Boston sports teams with his sons. He was a dedicated husband, father, brother, uncle and friend who was always ready to lend a helping hand. Jim loved the ocean, and he was never happier than when he was body-surfing in challenging waves. Those who knew Jim will remember his upbeat energy, quick smile, wicked sense of humor, and his devotion to his beloved Kathy, whom he called his angel. He was a bright light and he will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
A funeral will be held on Tuesday, December 20, 2016, from Paradis-Givner Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oxford, followed by a Mass at 11:00 a.m. at St. Roch’s Church, 332 Main St., Oxford. Burial will be private at a later date. Calling hours are Monday, December 19, 2016, from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Boys and Girls Club of Webster-Dudley, 55 Oxford Ave., Dudley, MA 01571, or to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, c/o Dr. Matthew Kulke Research, 10 Brookline Place West., 6th Floor, Brookline, MA 02445.
