Irene Saad

OXFORD - Irene "Nana" V. (Gardner) Saad, 98, formerly of Barton Street, died Tuesday, May 22, 2012, at Oakwood Nursing Home in Webster. She was predeceased by her husband of 49 years, Joseph G. Saad who died in 1984. She is survived by five children, Robert J. Saad Sr. and his wife Etta of Webster, Richard J. Saad Sr. and his wife Evita of Leicester, Joseph E. Saad and his wife Patricia of North Oxford, Nancy A. Norton and her husband Richard of Webster, and Joyce I. Wayman and her husband Carlton of Webster; 13 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, many nephews and nieces, and her extended family at Oakwood Nursing Home, especially her friend Carol. She was predeceased by two brothers, Edward Gardner and Louis Gardner, both of Florida; and a sister, Clara Pelczarski of Webster. She was born in Oxford, the daughter of the late Joseph J. and Clara (Christian) Gardner, and lived most of her life in Oxford before moving to Webster in 2000. She graduated from Oxford High School in 1932. Mrs. Saad worked at Sandlerette Footwear in Webster for over 25 years, retiring in 1982. She was a member of St. Roch's Church and the St. Vincent de Paul Society. She was an avid sports fan, and enjoyed the Red Sox, Celtics, Patriots, and especially the Bruins. She attended many sporting events involving her children, and received a trophy from the Oxford Men's Softball League. Mrs. Saad loved reading, family parties, and crocheting. A funeral will be held on Saturday, May 26, 2012, from Paradis Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oxford, followed by a Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Roch's Church, 332 Main St., Oxford. Burial will be at a later date at St. Roch's Cemetery, Oxford. Calling hours are Friday, May 25, 2012, from 6-8 p.m., at the funeral home.
