OXFORD – Irene A. (Kelley) Cofsky, 96, formerly of Worcester, passed away peacefully in the home of her daughter and son-in-law on Friday, July 5, 2024. She was the beloved wife of the late Richard P. Cofsky Sr., and the mother of the late Richard P. Cofsky Jr., both who died in 1997.
Irene was born in Waterville, ME, and resided in Worcester for most of her life. She leaves two daughters, Donna L. Mangini of Worcester, and Debra A. Johnston and her husband Kevin of Oxford; six grandchildren, Richard III, Jennifer, Anthony, Catherine, Megan, and Chad; a great-granddaughter, Grace; and a great grandson due in August. She also leaves her devoted best friend of over 60 years, Beverly Brown of Worcester; her brother-in-law, Raymond Cofsky of Sutton; nephews, nieces; and a cousin, Sherman Hill.
She was predeceased by her sister, Doris Malo of Sterling. She was the daughter of the late Aubrey S. and Louise C. (Richard) Kelley, and lived most of her life in Worcester before moving to Oxford.
In her younger days, she sang in the choir at All Saints Episcopal Church in Worcester. She was president of the P.T.A. of the Oxford Street School in Worcester, and she bowled on the Sterling Stars bowling team in Auburn.
She worked for many years at Clark Manor in Worcester as a nurse’s aide prior to retirement. She enjoyed bingo and spending time with her friends at Colony Retirement Home in Worcester. She loved her scratch tickets and was a fan of the Boston Red Sox. She enjoyed her grandchildren and spending time at Webster Lake, where loved to watch the boats and the 4th of July fireworks. She loved Billy’s homemade soup, and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
A funeral will be held on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, from Paradis-Givner Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oxford, followed by a Mass at 11 a.m. at St. Roch’s Church, 332 Main St., Oxford. Burial will follow at Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton. Calling hours are Monday, July 15, 2024, from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
