Helen Lafontaine

OXFORD – Helen E. (McCullough) LaFontaine, 96, of Walnut Street, died Sunday, November 20, 2016. She was predeceased by her husband of 49 years, George P. LaFontaine of Oxford, who died in 1992. She is survived by her son, Richard R. LaFontaine and his wife Patricia of Oxford; two grandchildren, Lynn Delaney and her husband Robert of Charlton and Karen Norgren of Manhattan, NY; two great-grandsons, Dylan Delaney of Charlton and Matthew Delaney of Charlton; 3 nieces, 1 nephew, and many cousins. She was predeceased by four brothers, Robert, William, Joseph, and John McCullough. She was born in Worcester, daughter of the late George and Helen (Thompson) McCullough, and lived in Worcester before moving to Oxford in 1956. She graduated from Commerce High School and attended Worcester Girls Trade School, both in Worcester.

Mrs. LaFontaine was a licensed practical nurse for Dr. Donovan’s office in Shrewsbury. Previously, she worked at St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester. She was a member of the Oxford United Methodist Church in Oxford and was a member of the Woman’s Circle Group at the church. She enjoyed knitting mittens and hats, was a talented artist and an avid reader.

A funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 26, 2016, at Paradis-Givner Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oxford. Burial will follow at North Cemetery in Oxford. Calling hours will be from 10:00-11:30 a.m. on Saturday prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Friends of the Oxford Public Library, 339 Main St., Oxford, MA 01540, or to the Oxford Ecumenical Food Shelf, 4 Maple Rd., Oxford, MA 01540.
