Greta Brennan

NORTH OXFORD- Greta (Stuckens) Brennan, 88 of Thayer Pond Village, North Oxford MA passed away peacefully at home from pancreatic cancer. She is survived by her children Katherine Brennan of Sterling MA, Nancy Parker and husband Mark of Tucson AZ, James Brennan of Boise ID and John Brennan and wife Pat of Webster MA. She also leaves her sisters Hilda Stuckens of Edegem Belgium, Marieke Hall of South Wellfleet MA, Bieke Stuckens of Bercham Belgium and Paula Mulligan of Laytonville CA as well as her grandchildren Sean, Neil, Stephanie, Scott, Jennifer, Steven and Connor and many nephews and nieces. She is predeceased by her brother Leo Stuckens of Waukesha WI, son in law Dennis Blanks of Sterling MA and former husband William Brennan of Flat Rock NC.

She was born in Antwerp, Belgium, daughter of the late Leo and Margreta (Van Hove) Stuckens and moved to the US at age 18. She received her bachelor's degree from Bennington College in Bennington, VT. She spent her last 22 years in North Oxford MA.

Greta worked at the Old Sturbridge Village Bookstore for over 15 years, only recently retiring. She had a passion for books and worked in bookstores for most of her working life. She could often be found working in her garden, enjoying the outdoors, traveling and reading. She also spent time quilting, sewing and playing Scrabble with her family and friends.

A remembrance service will be held this Saturday October 22, 2016. The family will greet guests from 10:00-10:30 and again from 11:00-11:30, with the remembrance service from 10:30-11:00 at Paradis-Givner Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oxford, MA, followed by a luncheon reception at Point Breeze, 114 Point Breeze Rd, Webster, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Friends of the Oxford Library or the Mass Audubon Society.
