OXFORD – Gerda I. (Statkiewicz) Doreika, 86, of Walcott Street, died Wednesday, August 29, 2007, at UMass Medical Center – Memorial Campus, Worcester. She was predeceased by her husband of 32 years, Anthony Doreika, Sr., who died in 1982. She is survived by four children, John P. Doreika and his wife Cynthia of Florida, Leo J. Doreika and his wife Eileen of Bar Harbor, ME, Regina Doreika of Worcester, and Tony Doreika and his wife Heidi of Oxford; two brothers in Germany; a sister in Sweden; five grandchildren, Paul, Lauri, Daniel, Heidi, and Eric; one step grandchild, Emily; four great grandchildren, Alex, Anthony, Nathan, and Andrew; and her best friend, Sophie Palubinskas. She was born in Gera, Germany, the daughter of the late Joseph and Elizabeth (Bemmann) Statkiewicz, and lived in Germany and Worcester before moving to Oxford 17 years ago. Mrs. Doreika was a housekeeper at St. Vincent Hospital for 35 years, retiring in 1986. She was a member of the Germania Social Club of Worcester County. Mrs. Doreika was a member of St. Roch's Church in Oxford and various church social groups. A funeral will be held at 9 a.m. on Saturday, September 1, 2007, from Paradis Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oxford, followed by a Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Roch's Church, 332 Main St., Oxford. Burial will follow at St. John's Cemetery, Worcester. Calling hours are Friday, August 31, 2007 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, Boston MA-NH Office, 330 Congress Street, 5th Floor, Boston, MA 02210, or to a charity of one's choice.
