George Robinson

WEBSTER - Attorney George J. Robinson, 76, of Wawela Park Road, died Tuesday, December 29, 2009, at UMass Memorial Medical Center - University Campus. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Jean A. (Deveau) Robinson of Webster; five children, Susan Jefferson and her husband Phil of Hamilton, Kathleen Lussier and her husband Dave of Oxford, Sharon Chase and her husband Vance of New Jersey, Carol Daly and her husband John of Douglas, and Major George Matthew Robinson (USMC) and his wife Jill of North Carolina; a brother, James J. Robinson; ten grandchildren, Tabitha, Brian, Jake, Luke, Nicholas, Julia, Jack, Colin, Mark, and Mary; a great-granddaughter, Ella; and four nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by a brother, Edward P. Robinson of Oxford. He was born in Southbridge, the son of the late George H. and Elizabeth (Gallant) Robinson, and lived in North Oxford and Oxford before moving to Webster over 40 years ago. He was a Major in the U.S. Marine Corps. Mr. Robinson established the law firm of Robinson and Jalbert in Webster, retiring in 2006. He graduated from College of the Holy Cross in Worcester in 1955 and received his law degree from Suffolk University in Boston in 1964. He was admitted to the U.S. Supreme Court in 1969. Mr. Robinson was a former member of the Oxford School Committee and was past president and N.E. District Director of the Webster Exchange Club. He was a life member and past president of the Webster-Dudley-Oxford Chamber of Commerce. He was a director of the United Way of Webster, a member of the Webster Advisory Board, and a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 4241 in Oxford. He was past president, corporator, and director of Hubbard Regional Hospital in Webster. Mr. Robinson was a longtime member, corporator, and trustee at the Webster Five Cents Savings Bank. At his retirement, he was Chairman of the Board of Directors at the bank. A funeral Mass will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 2, 2010, at St. Roch's Church, 332 Main St., Oxford. Military burial will follow at St. Roch's Cemetery, Oxford. Calling hours are Saturday, January 2, 2010, from 10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. at Paradis Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oxford, prior to the Mass.
