George Norcross

OXFORD - George L. "Lindy" Norcross, 85, of Charlton St., died Tuesday, March 22, 2011, at UMass Memorial Medical Center - Memorial Campus. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Edith T. (Tourtellotte) Norcross of Oxford; four children, Allison E. Emanuelson of Manchaug, Charles E. Norcross and his wife Shirley of Wells, ME, James C. Norcross and his wife Amy of Indianapolis, IN, and Catherine B. Endel of Ely, NV; eight grandchildren, Megan E. Perrotta, Heather L. Levine, Erin W. Emanuelson, Matthew G. Emanuelson, Geoffrey C. Norcross, Tracy L. Leavitt, Andrea C. Gassaway, and Derek J. Norcross; nine great grandchildren, and several nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by a brother, Robert S. Norcross; and a sister, Marion L. DeVillers. He was born in Oxford, the son of the late Charles L. and Florence E. (Sherman) Norcross, and was a lifelong resident of Oxford. He graduated from Worcester Boys Trade High School in Worcester in 1944, and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Mr. Norcross worked for Massachusetts Electric Co. for 35 years, retiring in 1988. He was a member of the Oxford Fire Department for 30 years, and was on the Board of Fire Engineers during that time. He was a master chair caner and taught chair caning at Bartlett High School in Webster. He was a member of the Oxford Lodge of Masons and the Oxford United Methodist Church. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 27, 2011, at the Oxford United Methodist Church, 465 Main St., Oxford. Burial will be at a later date at North Cemetery, Oxford. Calling hours are Saturday, March 26, 2011, from 2-5 p.m. at Paradis Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oxford. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Oxford United Methodist Church, 465 Main St., Oxford, MA 01540.
