OXFORD - George S. Matney, 84, of Federal Hill Rd., died Tuesday, June 12, 2012, in his home. He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Anna F. (Coulter) Matney of Oxford; and a daughter, Kathleen Brown and her husband Calvin L. Brown Sr. of Mattapan. He was born in New Bedford, the son of the late Arthur G. and Amelia (Stefney) Matney, and lived in Boston and Rockland before moving to Oxford many years ago. Mr. Matney was a coach driver for Brush Hill Bus Company in Boston for 10 years, retiring in 1990. In his younger days, he ran track at Rockland High School and enjoyed ice skating. He was a good communicator and teacher, and loved political history. Mr. Matney enjoyed playing the organ and loved jazz. A funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, June 19, 2012, at Paradis Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oxford. Military burial will follow at North Cemetery, Oxford. Calling hours are Tuesday, June 19, 2012, from 11 a.m. - 12 noon at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942.
