George Daigle, Sr.

OXFORD - George J. Daigle, Sr., 80, died peacefully on Saturday, August 4, 2012, surrounded by his family. He was predeceased by two brothers, Joseph and Albert Daigle; a sister, Mary Dumont; his first wife, June P. Langlois; and a special companion, Doris Beaupre. He is survived by his son, George J. Daigle, Jr. of California; five daughters, Judy Rivera and her husband John of Thompson, CT, Karen Poplawski and her husband David of Thompson, CT, Susan R. Muise and her husband Paul of Dudley, Lynne M. Dougherty and her husband John Dougherty Sr. of Webster, and Jamie Learned and her husband Rodney of Andover, ME; two sister, Yvonne McCauseland of Oxford and Theresa Fanion of Webster; a stepson, Roland J. Lowe of Arizona; grandchildren Amanda Paquette of Worcester, Emilie Muise of Webster, John Dougherty Jr. of Webster, Sean Dougherty of Martha's Vineyard, Matthew Dougherty of Webster, Jennifer Conant of Maine, Michael and Brandon Rivera of Worcester, Joseph, Jonathan, and Jordyn Poplawski of Thompson, CT, and Joey Brochu of Cherry Valley; great grandchildren, nephews, and nieces. He was formerly married to Nancy (Lowe) Lambert of Webster. He was born in Oxford, the son of the late Culbert and Regina (Cayer) Daigle, and was a lifelong resident of Oxford. Mr. Daigle worked for the Laborer's International Union #243 in Auburn for 35 years, retiring in 1996. During his time there he was especially proud of helping with the construction of Route 52, UMass Memorial Medical Center, and the Blackstone River Tunnel. Previously, he was a well-driller at Olsen Well Drilling in North Oxford for 20 years. He was a member of the T.S.K.K. and donated often to the American Cancer Society. Mr. Daigle enjoyed the outdoors, and especially loved clamming and feeding his birds. He also enjoyed puzzles, collecting coins, working on cars, being an all-around handyman, and cooking. In his younger years, he was a C.B.'er and participated in the C.B. community. He liked the New York Yankees, the Patriots, and Chevy cars. The family would like to extend their gratitude for the exceptional care given to him by Webster Manor Nursing Home, especially the 2nd floor staff, Bob, Benson, and Sue Pederson, as well as all of the caring people he met during his 2-year stay there. A funeral Mass will be held on at 10 a.m. on Monday, August 13, 2012, at St. Roch's Church, 332 Main St, Oxford. Burial will follow at St. Roch's Cemetery, Oxford. A calling hour will be held from 8:15 - 9:15 a.m. on Monday, August 13, 2012, prior to the Mass.
