WEBSTER - George E. Berthiaume, 85, died in at the home of his son Kevin on Monday, January 23, 2012, where he has resided for the past several months. He is survived by three children, Kevin M. Berthiaume and his wife Elaine of Thompson, CT, Eileen C. Alston of Brooklyn, CT, and George C. Berthiaume of Webster; his former wife, Eileen M. (Rohan) Berthiaume of Webster; a brother, Kenneth Berthiaume of New Hampshire; a sister, Shirley Kemp of Auburn; 4 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, and many nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by a grandson, Brian C. Berthiaume who died in 2009; one brother and 2 sisters. He was born in Webster, the son of the late Clement and Marjorie (McCleod) Berthiaume, and lived most of his life in Oxford and Webster. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving as Pharmacist's Mate. Mr. Berthiaume was a pharmacist for many years. He owned and operated Oxford Drug Store in Oxford and later opened Berthiaume Drug in Webster. Following retirement as a store owner, he worked as a pharmacist at Fallon and Rite Aid. He loved sailing on Webster Lake and enjoyed racing sailboats many years ago. He liked to play the harmonica, was an avid Patriots fan, and was an amateur Ham radio operator. A private graveside service will be held at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy, 179 Longwood Ave., Boston, MA 02115. Paradis Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oxford, is assisting with arrangements.
