Florence Day

OXFORD/WEBSTER - Florence E. (Utterback) Day, 91, formerly of Oxford, died peacefully on Thursday, May 8, 2014, at St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester after a short illness. She was predeceased by her husband of 36 years, Earle F. Day of Oxford who died in 1986. She is survived by five children, Jean E. Day of Oxford, Melinda E. MacGillivray and her husband William of North Oxford, Stephen E. Day and his wife Janice of Dudley, James F. Day and his wife Kelyd Dapenha of Worcester, and Scott E. Day and his wife Kristen of Millis; eight grandchildren, Ashley, Brittany, Jennifer, Jeremy, Samuel, Maxwell, Anthony, and Noah; many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, and nieces. She was predeceased by a daughter, Jane A. Day who died in 1953; two sisters, Margaret and Esther Utterback; and three brothers, Lloyd, Virgil, and Henry Utterback. She was born in Trafalgar, IN, the daughter of the late Hugh and Elizabeth Utterback, and lived most of her life in Oxford. Mrs. Day was a longtime member of the First Congregational Church in Oxford. She was a Sunday school teacher, a member of the Women's Fellowship, and served on many committees at the church over the years. She delivered Meals-on-Wheels well into her 80's. She enjoyed sewing, liked going to the theater, and attended the YMCA in Southbridge. Memorial calling hours are Tuesday, May 13, 2014, from 4-7 p.m. at Paradis-Givner Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oxford. A celebration of Florence's life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 28, 2014, at the First Congregational Church, 355 Main St., Oxford. Burial will be private at North Cemetery in Oxford.
